Gay’s The Word
Gay’s The Word is the UK’s pioneering first (and sadly currently the only surviving) bookshop specialising in content for a lesbian and gay audience. Gay’s The Word was established back in 1979 to service the LGBT community and is located in the Bloomsbury district of London, near Russell Square.
Their book (and movie) range is vast, and covers everything from romance, erotic and crime fiction to a non-fiction section which covers a wide range of issues within the LGBT community. For example, if you require a reference work on historical and political movements within the queer community then Gay’s the Word is likely your first (and last) stop.
They’re happy to make suggestions and recommendations based to help you as a customer find exactly what you’re looking for, and make a point to read (and watch) as much of their material as possible.
There’s also the occasional guest appearance of authors who’ll give out signings of their latest books too. Gay’s the Word is considered to be a safe and non-judgemental environment for everyone connected to the LGBT community
